Iranian Intelligence Figure Sounds Alarm Over MEK’s Expanding Social and Global Reach

Three-minute read

In a revealing speech, Javad Hashemi-Nejad, head of the Habilian, a regime-linked security and intelligence organization, issued a stark warning about the growing influence and activities of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (MEK/PMOI). Speaking to Basij members, he notably referred to the organization by its full name rather than using the regime’s derogatory term, signaling how irrelevant the term “hypocrites” has become inside Iran.

As state-affiliated media outlets reported on this event, Hashemi-Nejad cited two major uprisings and said, “The activities of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, especially in recent years, including the events of 2017 and 2019, continue to play a significant role in both domestic and international issues. Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, in one of her meetings in the U.S. Congress, succeeded in garnering the support of 90 percent of its members to participate in that meeting.”

He added, “The main danger lies in the fact that this organization continues its destructive activities under the guise of human rights and democracy, and this issue should be recognized as a serious threat to our security.”

The Basij News Agency reported on the meeting, “Hashemi-Nejad pointed to the influence of the hypocrites on prominent European and American politicians, stating that this support is not merely due to money, but rather because of the organization’s crucial role in advancing anti-Iranian goals on a global scale.”

The Habilian Organization Chief added, “Every year, on the anniversary of the organization’s armed operations, elaborate meetings are held in Paris, which in terms of facilities and the number of participants, even the French government cannot match.”

“The leaders of the MEK, including Maryam Rajavi, have continuously raised and pursued issues such as the implementation of oil and banking sanctions against Iran in international forums, long before these sanctions were actually implemented,” he complained.

Hashemi-Nejad added: “Recently, Hamid Noury was arrested and tried in Sweden. His trial lasted over 90 sessions, and throughout these sessions, members of the MEK were continuously present outside the court. According to their own statements, they even ensured that, despite the minus 20-degree cold, the court’s environment did not change in a way that would allow any representative from the Islamic Republic to attend. This organization operates with impunity in European countries because they play a crucial role in undermining the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Concluding his remarks, Hashemi-Nejad warned, “The organization not only has not abandoned its main goals but is actively pursuing new objectives. This is evident in the influence and power the organization has gained through financial and political backing. The main danger lies in the fact that this organization continues its destructive activities under the guise of human rights and democracy, and this issue should be recognized as a serious threat to our security.”

“Today, some are trying to reverse the roles of martyr and executioner, and this organization is now being introduced as a defender of human rights and freedom. This change of face is part of a complex and dangerous strategy, the primary goal of which is to weaken the Islamic Republic and create confusion among the new generation,” the Habilian Chief bemoaned.

Hashemi-Nejad called on all officials to confront these threats and prevent “the enemies of the Islamic Republic” from achieving their goals. He also said, “Unfortunately, in our country, no trial had been held against the hypocrites, and this matter is only recently being pursued by the head of the judiciary, Ebrahim Raisi.”
