The Turkish Foreign Ministry has summoned the Iranian regime’s ambassador after several high-ranking officials in Tehran made anti-Ankara statements about the situation in Syria, Anadolu Agency reported Friday.

A spokesperson for the Turkish Foreign Ministry said “Turkey does not need to ask permission from anyone while taking measures in line with international law against threats to its national security.”

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tanju Bilgiç denounced remarks by officials of the Iranian regime and said they should instead remain silent and feel “shame” for the humanitarian tragedy in the region because the Iranian regime has been a supporter of the Syrian regime that has caused the “terror problem” in the region.

Turkey summoned Iranian Ambassador to Turkey Alireza Bigdeli over several statements from Iranian officials criticizing policies of Ankara on Syria, Hurriyet Daily News reports.
