‘Reconciliation Plan’ Causes Controversy Among Iran Regime’s Rival Bands

Mohammad-Khatamai

NCRI – A while ago, former Iranian regime’s President ‘Mohammad Khatamai’ described the current situation as the ‘best opportunity’ for creating a national reconciliation environment among regime’s rival bands, maintaining that now is the time to pave the way for more solidarity among all tendencies and forces.

The remarks was welcomed by many of the so-called reformist figures.

Ebtekar, a newspaper close to Rouhani’s band, writes in this regard: “the necessity of turning to national reconciliation proposal is due to the risks coming from the Trump administration that are threatening us (regime).”

“Social realities show that”, added the newspaper, “the Iranian society is suffering a lot of problems which might sooner or later turn into a crisis if not harnessed, while no faction alone is able to resolve such problems.”

The newspapers close to Khamenei’s band, on the other hand, have strongly criticized raising the issue of national reconciliation.

Khamenei’s representative in Kayhan newspaper ‘Hossein Shariatmadari’ writes in this regard: “the insistence of this group on re-entry into regime’s structure can only be motivated by penetrating into regime’s decision-making centers to raise marginal issues.”

Also the state-run Vatan-e-Emrooz newspaper points to the connection between Rafsanjani’s death and the reconciliation plan, writing: “today, they are seeking correspondence (with Khamenei) so as to reconcile and come back.”

“Do these people believe that they can once again reconcile with the system so that they can prepare for their future intrigues, the way the reconciled with Rafsanjani in 2005 as a refuge for designing and launching their sedition (uprising) in 2009?” added the newspaper.

Meanwhile, pointing to the reconciliation proposal, Secretary General of Motalefeh Party described it as ‘crushing water in a mortar’.

In reaction to the proposal, Mohammad-Nabi Habibi said at the end of the Motalefeh Secretaries session on Sunday February 12 that “what’s being raised as national reconciliation is actually aimed at portraying a ‘conspirator’ and ‘belligerent’ as a ‘reformer to whom the system owes’. This is like crushing water in a mortar.”
