Maryam Rajavi’s Message of Condolence, on the Passing of the Prominent Law Professor and Friend of the Iranian Resistance Cherif Bassiouni

 

Professor M. Cherif Bassiouni, one of the greatest contemporary law professors, and a great friend of the Iranian resistance, died Sept. 25 at his home in Chicago. He was 79.

Hailing this great friend and honorable adviser of the Iranian resistance in attaining the legal rights of the residents of Camp Ashraf, The president elect of the Iranian resistance, consoled his tragic loss.

The following is the message of Mrs. Rajavi:

Professor Mahmoud Cherif Bassiouni renowned as “the father of international criminal law” passed away.

A fine scholar, he was a chief architect of the International Criminal Court at The Hague and spent a life time investigating war crimes, genocides, and crimes against humanity. In 2003, he wrote a legal opinion in defense of the rights and status of the residents of Ashraf.

The passing of Professor Cherif Bassiouni is not only a tragic loss for the law community but for human rights and human society in general.

I would like to extend my sincere condolences to his family and to all advocates of justice.

May others follow in his footsteps and pursue his endeavors as our world is gravely in need of passionate guardians of justice and principled human beings such as Cherif Bassiouni.
