MEP expresses support for call for protection of Iranian refugees in Camp Liberty

Below is the text of a video message by Mr. Tunne Kelam, member of the European Parliament from Estonia and a long-time member of the Friends of a Free Iran (FOFI) intergroup at the European Parliament on the recent joint statement by 170 MEPs calling for action to protect members of Iranian opposition the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI / MEK) in Camp Liberty in Iraq:

One hundred and seven members of European Parliament representing all member states and nations, signed a statement which addresses the situation in Camp Liberty, where still over 2000 people are sieged.

They were attacked on October 29th. The attack which claimed once again 24 lives. This is the situation which cannot continue. We are absolutely worried about the situations there because these people are under the UN protection, and UN is not guaranteeing protection.

On the contrary it is evident that, Iranian security services have access to the camp and are preparing regular attacks by missiles on the inhabitants who are absolutely defenceless, who are under siege and who have been cut off of for many elementary necessities.

So, therefore it is our task and our job to secure the safety and health first of all residents. That is why we urge the International collision fighting against that to protect Camp Liberty from the air that no missiles will be shot against the inhabitants.

Also very important is that we ask that person responsible for the security of the camp who has acted in that direction Mr. Faleh Fayyad to be replaced immediately because, he is obviously in connection with the enemies and those who want to destroy inhabitants.

And third items is to remove the complete siege of the camp, which has been established by Iraq, under the influence of Iranian regimes to recognise the ownership of the inhabitants, because they were forced to move from their original Camp Ashraf where they have to lay back property which they had built, created and they have been actually rubbed of it, millions of dollars of worth.

And of course the UN should launch investigating the October 29th murders against the inhabitants of camp liberty.
One hundred and seventy members of the European parliament, they represent all nations as I said, and, this is a voice, this is a message, which cannot be ignored by International public opinion and especially by the States which are responsible for law and order there.
