The United States and the Iranian regime held high-level talks in Oman on Sunday ahead of a looming deadline for a nuclear deal, but U.S. President Barack Obama warned that a “big gap” remained.

US Secretary of State John Kerry met the Iranian regime’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Muscat, the Oman capital, about the long-running nuclear negotiations.

President Obama told CBS News in an interview broadcast Sunday. “Are we going to be able to close this final gap so that (Iran) can re-enter the international community, sanctions can be slowly reduced and we have verifiable, lock-tight assurances that they can’t develop a nuclear weapon?”

“There’s still a big gap. We may not be able to get there.”

The first round of talks took place Sunday morning with a break for lunch and consultations before resuming again in the early evening.

Kerry, Zarif and Ashton will sit down for more talks in Oman in Monday. The talks are expected to continue on Tuesday at the political directors’ level.

The Iranian regime is still failing to provide answers to questions related to the military dimension of its nuclear activities, the UN atomic watchdog said Friday.

The International Atomic Energy Agency said in a new quarterly report on Friday: “Iran has not provided any explanations” on two issues that Tehran had undertaken to clarify by August 25 regarding the military dimension of their secret nuclear activities.

Meanwhile on Friday, the U.S. Representative Office of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI-US) revealed previously undisclosed information about the Iranian regime’s illicit nuclear weapons-related activities at Parchin military facility in Tehran.

The names of key officials, foreign experts and organizations involved in such clandestine activities and their responsibilities at Parchin will also be revealed.

The NCRI-US revealed the names of key figures, officials, organizations, staff and foreign advisors that have been involved in the project.

According to the information obtained by the network of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) inside the country, the chambers were built by a company affiliated to the Iranian regime’s Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC) as part of a highly classified project that only two senior officials were informed about.
