NCRI – Asharq al-Awsat published a document on Iran’s meddling in Syria provided by Nasr alhariri, head of the Syrian opposition in the Geneva talks, at the end of the sixth round of these negotiations.

“From the first days of the Syrian revolution, Iran has been strategically calculating to stand alongside the Bashar Assad regime and cloak its crimes. This has reached the point of Tehran directly taking part in their crimes. Currently, Iran has become the occupier of Syria and this occupancy is through social fabrics and its military infiltration,” the piece reads.

“We consider it the right of the Syrian people to accuse the Iranian regime of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Syria, and follow up in this regard,” Hariri added.

“Targeting citizens and forced migrations imposed on the Syrian people by Iran’s proxy militias, are all taking place under the framework of this regime’s sectarian efforts in the region. Iran is a bloodthirsty regime that has illegally entered Syria and distributed dozens of proxy and mercenary groups across the county. Each of these groups have tens of thousands of members in the Levant, including the Lebanese Hezbollah, Iraqi Hezbollah, Syrian Hezbollah and dozens of other paramilitary groups.”

The sixth round of the Geneva talks focusing on Syria, with the presence of the US envoy Staffan de Mistura, came to an end with the Syrian opposition demanding Iran be held accountable and expelled from Syria, according to an Al-Jazeera report on May 20th.

Hariri said his delegation has presented its documents regarding those arrested in Syria and the role played by Iran in changing the social fabric of Syria. Limiting the meddling of Iran and its paramilitary forces in Syria will be in everyone’s interest, he added.
