April 9, 2019. In a statement issued today, Alejo Vidal-Quadras the president of the Brussels-based International Committee in Search of Justice (ISJ) welcomed the inclusion of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) in the US State Department’s list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO), the statement reads as follows:

The United States has listed Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO).

IRGC, the fanatical elite force of the Supreme Leader, has been responsible for almost every conflict and bloodshed in the Middle East and beyond for the past four decades.

Apart from its direct role in internal repression, the Revolutionary Guards also control most of Iran’s economy today.

The IRGC is the main actor behind regime’s secret nuclear weapons projects as well as its nuclear-capable ballistic missiles programs which has continued beyond the Nuclear Deal (also known as JCPOA).

Dismantling IRGC is an imperative for establishment of freedom and democracy in Iran and a necessity for the Middle East peace and security. IRGC’s blacklisting is therefore a long-overdue step towards ending war and terrorism throughout the world.

During 2018, the IRGC together with Iranian Intelligence ministry (MOIS) were responsible for a number of assassinations and terror bomb plots on European soil which led to the arrest or expelling of at least six Iranian diplomats – including an Ambassador – from Europe.

The International Committee in Search of Justice (ISJ) welcomes IRGC’s terrorist designation as a right step and urges the European Union to follow suit by putting IRGC on EU’s terrorism list to protect Europe and EU’s citizens from Iranian-led attacks and to take a firm step towards peace and stability in the Middle-East region and beyond.
