A look at the new wave of executions in Iran

On Wednesday morning, April 18, 2018, Bahman Varmarzyar was hanged in Hamadan’s Central Prison. Also on the same day, seven more prisoners were hanged in Karaj Gohardasht prison.

Iran: 19 Executions in One Week

Iranian regime sent 19 prisoners to the gallows in cities of Gohardasht, Urmia, Hamedan,Tabriz, Kermanshah and Ilam prisons. Eight of the executed were hanged collectively in Gohardasht Prison in Karaj on April 18th.

On the same day, Bahman Varmazyar, a young prisoner who was a sports coach, was executed in Hamadan Prison. A day before, a prisoner was executed in Tabriz's central prison.

On Tuesday, April 24, the Iranian regime's traffic police in Bandar Anzali, northern Iran, beat a young man over so-called 'improper veiling' by his wife in public. The man was repeatedly punched and kicked by the suppressive forces.

"Morally Reprehensible" Iranian Regime Faces More Domestic and International Scrutiny

On Friday, the US State Department released its annual Country Reports on Human Rights Practices. The reports detailed human rights abuses around the world and were accompanied by a statement declaring some of those countries to be “morally reprehensible” and either unable or unwilling to use good governance instead of repression in order to maintain internal stability.
