Speech of Dr Alejo Vidal-Quadras, Paris 8 February 2019

Iranian opposition’s march on the occasion of the anniversary of the antimonarchy revolution in 1979

Alejo Vidal-Quadras, former Vice President of the European Parliament and current President of the international committee In Search of Justice (ISJ), tells the Paris rally for a free Iran: “I call on the EU to take a hard line with this theocratic and terrorist regime which has no future.”

Alejo Vidal-Quadras:

“I am very happy to be here today and see such a good crowd gathered on the 40th anniversary of the Iranian revolution against the Shah’s dictatorship.

During these past four decades, the Iranian people have suffered greatly under this Islamic fundamentalist regime. But the mullahs have not been able to defeat the resistance movement for freedom and democracy.

Over the past year, we have seen great changes with regard to Iran. We have seen Iranian people rising up in their nationwide uprisings chanting that “the game is over for both reformists and hardliners.” We have seen PMOI’s “Resistance Units” flourishing all over Iran, putting up posters and distributing flyers and spreading the word of resistance to every town and village all over Iran. These resistance units has truly terrified the mullahs who are clearly panicking and have found no other way to respond than to intensify the internal repression while resorting to terrorism in Europe to try to physically eliminate the PMOI and the democratic opposition movement abroad.

Over the past year we have seen six Iranian diplomates including an Ambassador in office, arrested or expelled from Europe for their role in plotting terrorism on their opponents on European soil. We saw the failed Villepinte bombing plot here in France in July last year; we had the foiled bombing of Persian new year gathering of Iranian opposition in Albania in March last year.

These desperate efforts truly shows that the only movement that the Iranian regime takes seriously is this movement under the leadership of Mrs Maryam Rajavi.

Today the regime is ever more isolated on the International scene and the pressure is mounting on the mullahs because of their terrorism and their launch of ballistic missiles as well as financing terrorist groups in the region.

I call on the EU to take a hard line with this theocratic and terrorist regime which has no future.

EU must stop its appeasement policies and support the Iranian opposition instead of the mullahs. Appeasement only encourages the mullahs for more crimes in Iran and more terrorism in Europe.

The EU has to put the entire Iranian Intelligence Ministry and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on its terrorism blacklist.

I am realistically very hopeful and confident that 2019 could be the year the mullahs will be overthrown! Let’s work together for this goal.

Long live a Free Iran!

Thank you.”
