Reject membership of misogynous Iranian regime in UN Women

Chitsaz - UN WomenNCRI – Ms. Sarvnaz Chitsaz, Chair of the NCRI’s Women’s Committee, described candidacy of the misogynous regime of mullahs for membership in the Board of Directors of the UN Women as an insult to all Iranian women and all women’s rights advocates around the world. She called on all countries not to support the regime’s membership in the UN body, a regime that has executed tens of thousands of women political prisoners, and do not allow the mullahs to exploit the UN bodies.

Ms. Chitsaz added: For more than three decades, the fundamentalists have suppressed, humiliated and harassed millions of Iranian women under baseless excuses; they have executed tens of thousands of women from various sectors of society, particularly students; they have sentenced tens of thousands of them to gradual death by holding them in the mullahs’ medieval dungeons.  That regime has institutionalized suppression and discrimination against women in its reactionary laws, and under reactionary excuses has deprived noble Iranian women of their most fundamental rights such as the right to choose occupation, education, the right to marriage and divorce, and the right to freely choose clothing.

Imposing psychological pressures and tortures against one thousand Iranian women in Camp Ashraf, members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), is yet another measure carried out by the regime.

The presence of representatives of this misogynous regime in the United Nations is against the values and goals of ‘UN Women’ for ‘promotion of gender equality’. The only way to support Iranian women and the values for which women’s rights advocates have been striving for many years is to expel the Iranian regime and its representatives from the United Nations.
