{"id":10428,"date":"2011-04-27T12:01:30","date_gmt":"2011-04-27T11:01:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/multimedia\/ashraf-liberty\/10428-mother-rallies-for-protection-of-exiles-and-daughter-in-camp-ashraf"},"modified":"2023-01-14T00:10:30","modified_gmt":"2023-01-13T23:10:30","slug":"mother-rallies-for-protection-of-exiles-and-daughter-in-camp-ashraf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/ashraf-liberty\/mother-rallies-for-protection-of-exiles-and-daughter-in-camp-ashraf\/","title":{"rendered":"Mother rallies for protection of exiles and daughter in Camp Ashraf"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"article-1374793-0b89e8c8000\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-37190\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2011\/04\/article-1374793-0b89e8c8000.jpg\" border=\"0\" width=\"200\" style=\"margin: 5px;float: left\" \/>Times Series<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0 By Natalie O&#8217;Neill\u00a0\u00a0 27th April 2011<br \/>A MOTHER has protested almost every day for 25 years in aid of Iranian refugees in Camp Ashraf, where her daughter lives.<\/p>\n<p>Despite finding it difficult to walk, 75-year-old Fatemeh Mohammad has rallied alongside hundreds of fellow Anglo-Iranians outside the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and US Embassy in Westminster calling for the protection of exiles in Camp Ashraf, Iraq.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Camp Ashraf has become an icon of hope for a free democratic Iran and is occupied by 3,400 members of the Iranian resistance, Peoples of Mojahedin Organisation of Iran (PMOI) including Fatemeh\u2019s daughter Maryam Mohammad, 49.<\/p>\n<p>The movement has been based in Iraq since the 1980s and raises awareness about human rights violations in Iran and calls for an end to what it refers to as a &#8220;two-year-long inhumane siege of Ashraf\u201d, suppressing residents and limiting supplies including medication.<\/p>\n<p>Fatemeh was born in Iran but moved to Watford Way in Hendon 25 years ago with her late husband Pedar Mohammad after members of the Iranian regime realised they were supporters of PMOI.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>The couple had been visiting their two sons and Maryam who were living in England, when they received a phone call from a family friend warning them not to return to Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Fatemeh said: \u201cWe were a very wealthy family with four different flats, eight shops, I had a top of the range car and we had a nice lifestyle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut the Iranian guards had confiscated everything we owned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy friend said if we went back we would be arrested and it would be the end.\u201d<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>While living with her mother and father in Hendon, Maryam decided to join the liberation movement PMOI in Camp Ashraf.<\/p>\n<p>Fatemeh said: \u201cMaryam left about 20 years ago \u2013 She has always had a character to want to help people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe told me she wanted to bring about change for her country and said she must go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fatemeh last saw Maryam seven years ago when she had visited the camp and since then she has only spoken to her daughter twice.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Fatemeh said: \u201cShe called once in 2008 and once in 2009 telling me she is so happy there and she is having the best life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the last call she told me not to worry but as a mother, even though she is grown up, she is still my baby and I do worry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On April 8 it was reported the Iraqi army had shot unarmed civilians in Camp Ashraf, leaving 34 dead.<\/p>\n<p>Director of Association of Anglo-Iranian Women in the UK, Laila Jazayeri said: \u201cThe Iraqi army attacked the camp with heavy machine guns, armoured vehicles and automatic guns and grenades, targeting the heads and chests of our loved ones deliberately to kill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAround 350 were injured and over 200 are in need of medical attention but the army is preventing them from receiving medical care.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey have stopped drugs, medication and medical equipment from going into the camp. <br \/>\u201cSomething has to be done to put a stop to this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Anglo-Iranian Community in Barnet continues to protest outside the US Embassy in Westminster, calling on the US government to take over the protection responsibility of the camp.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times-series.co.uk\/news\/8995451.Mother_rallies_for_protection_of_Iranian_exiles_and_daughter\/\">For original click here<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Times Series &ndash;&nbsp; By Natalie O&rsquo;Neill&nbsp;&nbsp; 27th April 2011A MOTHER has protested almost every day for 25 years in aid of Iranian refugees in Camp Ashraf, where her daughter lives.
