{"id":12641,"date":"2013-01-08T07:39:51","date_gmt":"2013-01-08T07:39:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/issues\/human-rights\/12641-human-rights"},"modified":"2023-02-06T14:34:09","modified_gmt":"2023-02-06T13:34:09","slug":"human-rights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/human-rights\/","title":{"rendered":"Human Rights-News and Articles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Appalling situation of human rights in Iran<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>120,000 political prisoners killed under the current regime<\/li>\n<li>30,000 political prisoners\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/20932-the-1988-massacre-in-iran\">massacred<\/a>within a few months in 1988<\/li>\n<li>Hundreds of thousands have been imprisoned and tortured on political grounds<\/li>\n<li>Some 3,000 people\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/20129-amnesty-iran-regime-executed-nearly-1000-people-in-2015\">executed<\/a>since Hassan Rouhani took over as President in 2015<\/li>\n<li>74 types of torture used against prisoners<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What has been done so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Human rights violations in Iran have been systematically recorded and reported to UN Special Rapporteurs, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Amnesty international and other international human rights organizations by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/pmoi-mek\">PMOI (MEK)<\/a>and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/about\/our-resistance\">NCRI<\/a>representatives in past three decades.<\/li>\n<li>Rights abuses have been brought to the attention of the UN Human Rights Council in every Council session.<\/li>\n<li>63 UN General Assembly resolutions,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/human-rights\/21750-63rd-unga-resolution-condemning-iran-s-human-rights-violations\">latest in December 2016<\/a>, obtained to condemn Iranian regime for its human rights abuses.<\/li>\n<li>Human rights organizations have issued statements and urgent appeals.<\/li>\n<li>In August 2011, the UN Human Rights Council appointed a Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Iran. In 2016, Asma Jahangir took over the Special Rapporteur mandate but as of today she has been denied a visa to go to Iran.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What needs to be done to stop executions and rights abuse?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Further punitive steps are required against Iran&#8217;s highest authorities to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make all trade relations with Iran contingent upon a stop to executions and human rights violations;<\/li>\n<li>Refer Iran\u2019s human rights dossier to the UN Security Council;<\/li>\n<li>Bring perpetrators of the human rights crimes in Iran, in particular the 1988 massacre of 30,000 political prisoners, before the International Criminal Court and international justice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>NCRI position on human rights<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rejects so-called \u201cIslamic Retribution Law\u201d adopted by the Iranian regime as inhuman<\/li>\n<li>Promotes and adheres to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights<\/li>\n<li>Is committed to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, and other relevant human rights covenants<\/li>\n<li>Is committed to freedom of association, freedom of thought and expression, freedom of press, political parties, trade unions, councils, religions and denominations as well as freedom to choose one\u2019s profession<\/li>\n<li>Is committed to abolish the death penalty<\/li>\n<li>Is committed to prevent any violation of individual and social rights and freedoms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Appalling situation of human rights in Iran 120,000 political prisoners killed under the current regime 30,000 political prisoners&nbsp;massacredwithin a few months in 1988 Hundreds of thousands have been imprisoned and [&#8230;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[15],"tags":[175],"class_list":{"0":"post-12641","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","6":"category-human-rights","7":"tag-updated"},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
