NCRI – Mr Gholamhossein Sadeghi, one of the most prominent merchants in Tehran’s Bazaar and a member of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, passed away on Wednesday in a Baghdad hospital at the age of 74.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr Sadeghi died of heart attack two weeks after a major, and much delayed, operation.<\/p>\n
Before being transferred to Camp Liberty, he lived in Camp Ashraf where the Government of Iraq imposed a medical blockade depriving the residents of proper and adequate health care and services.
While in Camp Liberty, he was transferred to hospital in Baghdad on December 22, 2012, for a diagnosis of his illness. However, the Iraqi security agents prevented him from visiting a specialist and returned him to Camp Liberty.\u00a0 He personally complained to the UNAMi monitors about his treatment by Iraqi security agents.<\/p>\n
The next day, following the residents’ complaints, he was transferred to a Baghdad hospital where specialist diagnosed him as suffering from a brain tumor. Finally he received a surgery on 8 January 2013.\u00a0 Two weeks later he died of a heart attack.<\/p>\n
Mr Sadeghi was among many well known merchants in Tehran’s Bazaar that provided financial support to the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK). Later he gave all his wealth to the PMOI.<\/p>\n
Many of his fellow Bazaar merchants who provided financial support to the PMOI were executed by the Iranian regime, including Mr Mohammad Mesbah and Mr Ata Haj-Mahmoudian. <\/p>\n
Mr Sadegi had been a political prisoner under the Shah\u2019s rule. He was well-known among Iranian opposition members for his decency, modesty and hard work, who for over past 41 years had sacrificed all at his disposal for the cause of freedom and democracy.<\/p>\n
