{"id":14354,"date":"2013-08-14T11:20:02","date_gmt":"2013-08-14T10:20:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/issues\/human-rights\/14354-leading-french-figures-demand-iranian-mass-murderers-in-1988-genocide-face-justice"},"modified":"2023-01-14T12:03:48","modified_gmt":"2023-01-14T11:03:48","slug":"leading-french-figures-demand-iranian-mass-murderers-in-1988-genocide-face-justice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/leading-french-figures-demand-iranian-mass-murderers-in-1988-genocide-face-justice\/","title":{"rendered":"Leading French figures demand Iranian regime&#8217;s mass murderers in 1988 genocide face justice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"khavaran-\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-40266\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2013\/07\/khavaran-.jpg\" border=\"0\" width=\"272\" height=\"200\" style=\"float: left; margin: 5px;\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/khavaran-.jpg 272w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/khavaran--80x60.jpg 80w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 272px) 100vw, 272px\" \/>NCRI &#8211; The French Committee for a Democratic Iran has condemned the massacre of 30,000 political prisoners in 1988 and demanded that the United nations bring those responsible to justice.<\/p>\n<p>The committee, made up of leading political and human rights figures, issued the call on the 25th anniversary of the genocide of opponents of Iranian regime &#8211; most of whom were members of the People&#8217;s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI\/MEK).<\/p>\n<p>Their statement urged the UN&#8217;s human rights rapporteur for Iran Dr Ahmad Shaheed to form a panel of investigators to bring the all those who ordered the mass murders before international tribunals.<\/p>\n<p>The Khomeini regime acted with such ruthless cruelty against the PMOI that even some regime officials, including Khomeini&#8217;s successor Ayatollah Montazeri, objected to the killings, the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>It added: &#8220;Today Iran has chosen a new President. Democratic nations that crave hope are waiting for meaningful gestures on sensitive files on nuclear weapons and regional security. Short-term diplomatic gestures must be followed up with political acts.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Among them, condemning the massacre in July and August 1988 would be a major achievement in the face of public opinion in Iran and the rest of the world.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And regarding the new Iranian President, his choice of Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi as the Minister of Justice is a huge backwards step as he was one of the main decision makers for that massacre who was appointed by Khomeini as a member of the &#8216;Death committee&#8217; that was responsible for the fate of each and every prisoner.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NCRI &ndash; The French Committee for a Democratic Iran has condemned the massacre of 30,000 political prisoners in 1988 and demanded that the United nations bring those responsible to justice.
