NCRI – The rejection by the Iranian regime’s parliament of three of Hassan Rouhani’s proposed cabinet ministers, has exposed the growing power struggle in the regime between various factions. Their disapproval is a major blow to Rouhani by Ali Khamenei’s faction.<\/p>\n
MPs in the country’s Majlis refused the appointment of Rouhani’s choices for the education, science and sports ministries, deeming them to be too weak to suppress possible uprisings among Iran’s population of 19 million students.<\/p>\n
But the remainder of Rouhani’s cabinet has been widely recognised to be staffed with ministers who have all played a major role in repression, fundamentalism and the export of terrorism in the past 34 years can be seen among them.<\/p>\n
Rouhani has himself described the emphasis on security in his cabinet as a ‘source of pride’.<\/p>\n
Ali Rabiee, Rouhani\u2019s Minister of Labour, said in the Majlis: “Some consider the proposed cabinet as a security cabinet and this is okay. There have been intelligent people who have worked in the security departments. I was a Revolutionary Guard and I am proud of my past.”<\/p>\n
New justice minister Pour-Mohammadi is known as one the most prominent criminal in the regime. As a former deputy minister of intelligence, he headed the three-member ‘Death Committee’ which oversaw the massacre of political prisoners in 1988.
Hossein Dehghan, Rouhani\u2019s Minister of Defense, was among the ‘student followers of the Imam’ (Khomeini) who seized the US embassy in Tehran on November 4, 1979, and took American diplomats hostage for 444 days. He is a founding member of Hezbollah in Lebanon and was involved in terrorist activities in the country in the 80s.<\/p>\n
Ali Jannati, the Minister of Guidance, had a significant role in suppressing the people of Khorasan and Khouzestan as the Governor thee. In the uprising of the people of Mashhad in May 1992, he played an active role in widespread killing to crush the revolt.<\/p>\n
A representative of Khamenei\u2019s faction in the Majlis said: “One of my basic criteria in agreeing to this cabinet is the President and the government\u2019s resolve in defending the nuclear rights of the Iranian nation. I also met with the nominee for Foreign Affairs Minister, who reiterated that he would not compromise an iota on the rights and interests of the Iranian nation in the world stage.<\/p>\n
“By taking reasonable measures to obtain maximum benefits and reduce unnecessary costs, he would be enforcing the foreign policies of the regime and the leadership. Foreign policy must be national, non-partisan, constitutional and under the direct supervision of the Supreme Leader in order to avoid factional fighting and internal conflicts.”<\/p>\n
Eshaq Jahangiri, Rouhani\u2019s First Vice President, added: “Rouhani has conditioned ministers to have practical commitment to the Supreme Leader. Based on the president\u2019s mandate, they will give priority to general policies set out by the leadership in all areas.”<\/p>\n
