{"id":14434,"date":"2013-08-24T15:32:52","date_gmt":"2013-08-24T14:32:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/issues\/human-rights\/14434-ran-family-denied-access-to-political-prisoner-for-eight-months"},"modified":"2023-01-14T12:22:17","modified_gmt":"2023-01-14T11:22:17","slug":"ran-family-denied-access-to-political-prisoner-for-eight-months","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/ran-family-denied-access-to-political-prisoner-for-eight-months\/","title":{"rendered":"Iran: Family denied access to political prisoner for eight months"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"evin\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-40387\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2013\/08\/evin.jpg\" border=\"0\" width=\"294\" height=\"200\" style=\"float: left;margin: 5px\" \/>NCRI &#8211; The family of political prisoner Reza Akbari Monfared have been denied all contact and news of his condition since his arrest in January of this year, according to reports from inside the Iranian regime.<\/p>\n<p>Political activist Mr Monfared was arrested along with his son Ali Akbari Monfared at their home eight months ago and are believed to be being held in ward 209 of Tehran\u2019s Evin prison.<\/p>\n<p>His sister and mother-of-three Maryam Akbari Monfared, 38, was also arrested in 2010 and sentenced to 15 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Monfared, also a political prisoner of the 1980s, saw four other relatives murdered by the regime in the 1980s for their support for the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK). They have been named as Alireza, 20, executed in 1981; Gholamreza, 26, executed in 1985; and Roqieh, 30, and Abdolreza, 23, who were executed in the massacre of political prisoners in 1988.<\/p>\n<p>The Iranian regime repeatedly arrests family members of dissidents in Camps Ashraf and Liberty to pressure the residents.<\/p>\n<p>Among the detainees have been Ms Akram Sanjari and her 15 year-old son, Milad Yazdan Nejad. Ms Sanjari\u2019s daughter is a resident of Liberty. Her other son, Mishaq Yazdan Nejad, 26 and university student, was previously arrested for visiting his sister in Ashraf and also for participating in a memorial of massacred political prisoners. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison. He is now in a critical condition due to torture and the inhumane conditions of Gohardasht prison, in the city of Karaj.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Dina Karimi, a political prisoner of the 1980s, and her 16 year-old son Hanif have also been arrested.
