{"id":14446,"date":"2013-08-26T14:12:38","date_gmt":"2013-08-26T13:12:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/issues\/human-rights\/14446-iranian-regime-s-upholds-8-year-jail-term-for-pastor-abedini"},"modified":"2023-01-14T12:24:40","modified_gmt":"2023-01-14T11:24:40","slug":"iranian-regime-s-upholds-8-year-jail-term-for-pastor-abedini","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/iranian-regime-s-upholds-8-year-jail-term-for-pastor-abedini\/","title":{"rendered":"Iranian regime&#8217;s upholds 8-year jail term for Pastor Abedini"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"abedini\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-40401\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2013\/08\/abedini.jpg\" border=\"0\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" style=\"float: left;margin: 5px\" \/>NCRI &#8211; A Tehran appeals court upheld an eight-year prison sentence against the imprisoned Iranian-American pastor Saeed Abedini jailed for his role in for setting up a church in a house, state-run ISNA news agency reported.<\/p>\n<p>Pastor Abedini, 36, was arrested on 24 September, 2012, and charged with &#8216;acting against national security&#8217; and condemned to eight years imprisonment with hard labor.<\/p>\n<p>According to state-run media, Pastor Saeed Abedini had &#8216;prior to 2006, run a church at home and had been under house arrest for becoming a Christian&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>He then travelled abroad and upon returning back to Iran in September 2012, was arrested and subjected to physical and psychological torture by the Iranian regime\u2019s henchmen.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter to his wife, Saeed Abedini had written: &#8220;Sometimes they tell me that I shall be hanged because of my belief in Christ.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Iranian Resistance on numerous occasions has called on all international bodies, human rights defenders, especially the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression and the UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in Iran, to strongly condemn the arrest and torture of Christian leaders as well as followers of all religions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NCRI &ndash; A Tehran appeals court upheld an eight-year prison sentence against the imprisoned Iranian-American pastor Saeed Abedini jailed for his role in for setting up a church in a [&#8230;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[15],"tags":[175],"class_list":{"0":"post-14446","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","6":"category-human-rights","7":"tag-updated"},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
