NEW YORK (CBSNewYork\/AP) \u2013 Thousands rallied near the United Nations Tuesday to protest Iran\u2019s new president Hasan Rouhani.<\/p>\n
As WCBS 880\u2032s Alex Silverman reported, the demonstrators waving their red, white and green Iranian flags were joined by some high-profile politicians who said Rouhani\u2019s recent talk of opening dialogue with the United States is merely a ruse.<\/p>\n
They say Iran has to show it\u2019s moving away from trying to build a nuclear weapon before the United States opens any negotiations.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf Obama thinks that he\u2019s shaking the hands of a moderate, he\u2019s actually shaking some bloody hands,\u201d demonstrator Amir Emadi told Silverman. \u201cRouhani does not represent the Iranian people.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said his father was one of 52 people killed at a refugee camp in Iraq earlier this month at the behest of the Iranian president, Emadi said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese martyrs were murdered,\u201d shouted former Rep. Patrick Kennedy. \u201cBecause they dared to dream of an Iran that had a democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
