Today, the hunger strike by Iranian dissidents in camp Liberty in Iraq and in Geneva , Berlin , London, Ottawa and Melbourne entered its 70th day.<\/p>\n
The hunger strikers also call on the international community, particularly the U.S. and the UN to provide protection for Camp Liberty residents to prevent further attack.<\/p>\n
The fainted hunger striker at Camp Liberty was treated immediately by fluid injection.<\/p>\n
In a recent letter to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, a doctor that daily monitors the condition of protesters in Camp Liberty wrote: “Most men and women on hunger strike have lost 20 percent of their weight and they suffer from insomnia, headaches, dizziness, blurred vision and hearing , muscle loss, bone and joint pain , lack of concentration”<\/p>\n
He added that the people of Liberty are ” about to be victims of a humanitarian disaster unfolding before the eyes of the international community. It is therefore necessary to take urgent action to prevent this disaster.”<\/p>\n
Among the hunger strikers are many members of the families of the hostages and victims of the massacre on September 1.<\/p>\n
The hunger striker are also calling for an independent investigation into the massacre in the September 1 at Camp Ashraf, where 52 members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK) were executed by Iraqi forces at the behest of the Iranian regime.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
