Although the official media tried to minimize the extent of protests but Websites related to the clerical regime had to admit to part of their scale. According to a report published by an internet site run by former commander of the regime’s Revolutionary Guards Corps, there were scattered demonstrations across Tabriz, provincial capital of Eastern Azerbaijan adding that a group of demonstrators in the city which numbered up to "ten thousand" were chanting slogans against the state-owned daily. It also admitted to the anti-regime nature of the protest by saying "some one thousand of them attacked government quarters and banks." <\/p>\n
The website named some of the government buildings which were damaged by people including the Governor’s office of the province and the state-owned insurance company, "Bimeh Iran," and more than 20 state-owned banks. <\/p>\n
The number of demonstrators on Monday were growing rapidly, said the report adding that the clashes intensified in the meantime where a police van, a Special Unit’s vehicle, several police motorcycles, and a number of other vehicles were set on fire by the angry crowd. <\/p>\n
