Republican Rep. Mike McCaul and Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff said on Sunday they’re skeptical about the Obama administration’s nuclear enrichment deal with Iran, but disagreed when it comes to legislating sanctions against the country.<\/p>\n

McCaul, the House Homeland Security chairman, said he worries the administration will repeat past mistakes with North Korea and its nuclear program.<\/p>\n

“What I’m concerned about is that we have not dismantled their program and yet relieved their sanctions, which is a $7 billion economic aid to the country,” the congressman from Texas said.<\/p>\n

Schiff, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, said the current deal with Iran makes sense, but he’s skeptical it will work.<\/p>\n

“What the administration needs to push for in this negotiation is a peaceful program without enrichment,” the congressman from California said. “I wouldn’t begin the process of conceding anything on enrichment.”<\/p>\n

Schiff disagreed with McCaul on passing economic sanctions. But if Iran violates the nuclear deal, he said Congress would be in a better position to pass legislation against the current regime.<\/p>\n

“The moment they renege, sanctions will come flying out of the Congress,” Schiff said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
