The move by Iraqi forces comes few days after the December 26 deadly rocket attack on the camp that has redoubled the necessity for providing the T-walls needed to protect the vulnerable temporary housing trailers against future attacks.<\/p>\n
The stockpile of T-walls outside the Camp Liberty are part of 17,500 T-walls that has been used in the camp during the presence of U.S. forces in the camp.<\/p>\n
However, once the members of the residents were transferred from Camp Ashrf to Camp Liberty, despite their opposition, the Government of Iraq transferred these T-walls to outside the camp.<\/p>\n
Following the February 9, 2013 rocket attack, residents and their representatives numerously requested from Iraqi, U.S. and UN officials to return the 17,500 T-walls to the camp to bring down vulnerability of the residents living in housing trailers.<\/p>\n
Undoubtedly, with these T-walls in place, the number of death and injured from the rocket attacks would have been far less.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, a week after the fourth rocket attack, Government of Iraq continues to obstruct provision of other minimum security requirements such as transfer of protective helmets and vests and medical equipment from Camp Ashraf, etc.<\/p>\n
This clearly demonstrates that not only Iraq has no intention whatsoever to provide security for the camp\u2019s residents, but is planning to cause more casualties in any possible future attacks against them.<\/p>\n
