Iranian regime henchmen hanged a prisoner in Zahedan prison on Saturday, according to the reports received from Iran.<\/p>\n
As the prisoner was being hanged the repressive guards at the prison attacked the prison and forced them to go to the prison yard to listen to a speech by one mullah.<\/p>\n
The prisoners protested and the mullah had to end his speech and leave the scene.<\/p>\n
The Iranian regime has executed at least 83 prisoners in January 2014 – which represents an almost 90% increase compared to 46 in January 2013.<\/p>\n
The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, Ahmed Shaheed, and the United Nations Special Rapporteur on summary executions, Christof Heyns, called on the Hassan Rouhani’s government on January 22 to urgently halt the surge in hangings in the country since the start of 2014.<\/p>\n
The two experts stressed ‘the inherently cruel, inhuman and degrading nature of the death penalty’, and added: \u201cWe are dismayed at the continued application of the death penalty with alarming frequency by the authorities, despite repeated calls for Iran to establish a moratorium on executions.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
