{"id":16156,"date":"2014-03-17T11:01:47","date_gmt":"2014-03-17T11:01:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/issues\/human-rights\/16156-canada-shares-un-special-rapportuer-s-concerns-on-iran"},"modified":"2014-03-17T11:01:47","modified_gmt":"2014-03-17T11:01:47","slug":"canada-shares-un-special-rapportuer-s-concerns-on-iran","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/canada-shares-un-special-rapportuer-s-concerns-on-iran\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada Shares UN Special Rapportuer&#8217;s concerns on Iran"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Source: international.gc.ca <br \/>March 14, 2014 &#8211; Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement regarding the report by Ahmed Shaheed, UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran (see March 2014 Report of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCanada is dismayed by the long list of human rights concerns noted in the report, including arbitrary detentions, torture and mistreatment of detainees, persecution of ethnic minorities, lack of judicial independence and the execution of an estimated 1,539 people since 2011.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe persistent persecution of the Bah\u00e1\u2019\u00eds in Iran is deeply disturbing. Christians also continue to experience difficulties, including, by disturbing report, a court sentencing Christians to lashes for drinking wine during communion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile Iran\u2019s leaders present a moderate fa\u00e7ade to the world, travelling internationally and hosting foreign trade delegations, the Iranian government continues to systematically violate the human rights of its own people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCanada continues to call on Iran to undertake real, concrete and lasting reforms.
