The Democrat politician and Chairman of the US Committee on Foreign Relations also praised the important role of the MEK (The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran – PMOI) in exposing the ‘duplicity’ of the Iranian regime, which he branded a state sponsor of terrorism and a destabilizing influence throughout the Middle East.<\/p>\n
He said in a video message to the gathering of Iranians in Paris on June 27: “I have called on the government of Iraq and United States government again and again to do more to ensure the safety and security of the people of Camp Liberty.<\/p>\n

“And I\u2019m heartened that Iraqi leaders and administration officials now seem to understand how critical the safety and security of Camp Liberty residents are to me and to many of my colleagues in the United States Senate.<\/p>\n
“Protective T-Walls have been installed, the government has said they will contribute to a resettlement fund, and I will not stop pushing until the money is delivered and all of the MEK residents are safely resettled outside of Iraq.
“I call on Iraqi officials to do everything in their power to prevent further attacks. I told Prime Minister Maliki in person last year that his commitment to the safety and security of the MEK members of Camp Liberty is a critical factor in my future support for any assistance to Iraq.”<\/p>\n
And he said of Iran: “Iran\u2019s leadership has deliberately armed and trained Iraqi Shiite militias to bleed US forces into Iraq. It is a state sponsor of terrorism and this will not change regardless of what takes place at the negotiating table in Vienna or what happens in Iraq.<\/p>\n
“The fact is Iran is interested in us working with us only to the extent that it protects its interest in pursuing its regional hegemonic goals. The fact is Iran is a destabilizing influence throughout the region and continues to actively cultivate a network of terrorists and violent proxies across the Middle East.<\/p>\n
“That being said the situation in Iraq is so dangerous that even Iran is concerned we are going from a weak Iraq to a collapse state that it would be a safe haven for violent extremists.”<\/p>\n
Senator Menendez added: “Let us hope and pray that God willing that does not happen. I\u2019ve made clear to US administration officials that the safety and security of MEK members that Camp Liberty must continue to be a priority.
