{"id":16797,"date":"2014-07-09T19:54:43","date_gmt":"2014-07-09T18:54:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news1613067580\/news-sp-256\/terrorism-a-fundamentalism\/16797-iranian-regime-loses-appeal-in-beirut-bombing-funds-case"},"modified":"2023-01-14T21:10:21","modified_gmt":"2023-01-14T20:10:21","slug":"iranian-regime-loses-appeal-in-beirut-bombing-funds-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/terrorism-a-fundamentalism\/iranian-regime-loses-appeal-in-beirut-bombing-funds-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Iranian regime loses appeal in Beirut bombing funds case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"marine-barrack-bombing\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-41918\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/07\/marine-barrack-bombing.jpg\" border=\"0\" style=\"float: left;margin: 5px\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>A U.S. appeals court on Wednesday ruled that $1.75 billion in Iranian funds be turned over to families of the victims of the 1983 bombings of a Marine barracks in Beirut.<\/p>\n<p>The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York affirmed U.S. District Judge Katherine Forrest&#8217;s 2013 ruling that the money, currently held in a New York Citibank account, should be given to the families to help satisfy a $2.65 billion default judgment they won in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>On October 23, 1983, at 6:22 a.m., a suicide <a href=\"http:\/\/ncr-iran.org\/en\/terrorism-fundamentalism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bomber <\/a>drove a large water delivery truck to the Beirut International Airport where the Marine Barracks was located.<\/p>\n<p>After turning onto an access road leading to the compound, the driver rushed through a barbed-wire fence, passed between two sentry posts, crashed through the gate, and slammed into the lobby of the barracks. The huge explosion crumbled the four-story building, crushing the soldiers to death while they were sleeping.<\/p>\n<p>The attack killed 241 U.S. service members.<\/p>\n<p>In July 1987, the Iranian regime&#8217;s then-Minister of Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), Mohsen Rafiqdoost, said, &#8220;Both the TNT and the ideology which in one blast sent to hell 400 officers, NCOs, and soldiers at the Marines headquarters were provided by Iran&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Rafiqdoost&#8217;s comments were published in the Tehran daily Ressalat on July 20, 1987.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A U.S. appeals court on Wednesday ruled that $1.75 billion in Iranian funds be turned over to families of the victims of the 1983 bombings of a Marine barracks in [&#8230;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[19],"tags":[175],"class_list":["post-16797","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","category-terrorism-a-fundamentalism","tag-updated"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.7 -
