U.S. Senators Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) introduced a bill Thursday that would impose sanctions against the leaders including Ali Khamenei and Hassan Rouhani for violating human <\/a>rights.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe U.S. should strongly support the democratic aspirations of the Iranian people, and stand against ongoing systemic human rights violations by the Iranian regime,\u201d Rubio said.<\/p>\n

The S. 2585 bill, the Iran Human Rights Accountability Act \u201cwould take significant steps to require President Obama to hold Iranian leaders and individuals accountable for all human rights violations they have directed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile we continue to focus on disarming Iran\u2019s dangerous nuclear program, we cannot forget that Iran is a state-sponsor of terrorism that persecutes their own citizens,\u201d Kirk said.<\/p>\n
