{"id":172,"date":"2005-06-24T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2005-06-23T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/statements\/international\/172-polling-stations-in-tehran-other-cities-deserted-sp-6859"},"modified":"2023-02-01T13:37:07","modified_gmt":"2023-02-01T12:37:07","slug":"polling-stations-in-tehran-other-cities-deserted-sp-6859","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/international\/polling-stations-in-tehran-other-cities-deserted-sp-6859\/","title":{"rendered":"Polling stations in Tehran, more cities deserted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignright size-full wp-image-27319\" style=\"float: right;\" title=\"Image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2005\/06\/LionAndSun.jpg\" alt=\"Image\" width=\"44\" height=\"44\" border=\"0\" \/>Iran \u2013 election \u2013 statement no. 1<\/p>\n<p>Based on reports received until 11:00 am, local time, hundreds of polling stations in Tehran and other cities were deserted, which reflected a decisive boycott of the election.<br \/>\nIn Tehran, reports from different parts of the city, including Geisha, Al-Mehdi mosque Karaj, and north Amirabad polling stations, show that the number of voters was less than 10 in these areas.<br \/>\nIn an effort to show high voter turn out, the state-run television broadcast reports from several polling stations, including Hosseineh Ershad, Saddeqieh, Lorzadeh and Saddeqieh mosques, where everything was stage-managed before hand.<br \/>\nIn Hosseinieh Ershad, voters were being allowed into the polling station in groups of three to create a line of voters that would give the appearance of high turn out.<br \/>\nDespite the ban on election propaganda, a young woman who was handing out posters in favor of Rafsanjani, said, \u201cI am not voting for anyone. You should not vote either. I am doing this because they gave me some money. I have absolutely no faith in them.\u201d<br \/>\nReports from Shiraz, Ahwaz, Ghaemshahr, Hamedan, Neka, Roudsar, Bandar Abbas, Siahkal and Khorramabad show that the polling stations were deserted and
