{"id":17307,"date":"2014-10-03T20:49:24","date_gmt":"2014-10-03T19:49:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/issues\/human-rights\/17307-amnesty-international-calls-for-the-release-of-saeed-shirzad"},"modified":"2023-01-14T23:21:46","modified_gmt":"2023-01-14T22:21:46","slug":"amnesty-international-calls-for-the-release-of-saeed-shirzad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/amnesty-international-calls-for-the-release-of-saeed-shirzad\/","title":{"rendered":"Amnesty International calls for the release of Saeed Shirzad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"evin\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-42261\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/10\/evin.jpg\" border=\"0\" width=\"294\" height=\"200\" style=\"float: left;margin: 5px\" \/>Amnesty International issued an Urgent Action calling for the release of Saeed Shirzad held in Tehran\u2019s Evin Prison for four months, without access to his lawyer.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Shirzad, 27, an active member of the Society for Defending Street and Working Children has been accused of having contact with political prisoners\u2019 families and cooperating with the office of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/human-rights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Human Rights<\/a> in Iran.<\/p>\n<p>The rights group said is a prisoner of conscience, detained solely for his peaceful human rights activism.<\/p>\n<p>Saeed has been detained since 2 June 2014 and has spent over two months in solitary confinement in Section 209 of Tehran\u2019s Evin Prison, without access to his family and lawyer and under pressure to make a video-taped \u201cconfession\u201d, before he was transferred to Section 8, where people jailed for non-political crimes are held. His lawyer has not been allowed to meet him in prison or even access his court file.<\/p>\n<p>The authorities have not yet issued a formal indictment against Saeed Shirzad but they told him of the charges against him when they took him to the Prosecutor\u2019s Office in Evin Prison on 18 August.<\/p>\n<p>These include \u201cgathering and colluding against national security\u201d and \u201cpropaganda against the system\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Amnesty International issued an Urgent Action calling for the release of Saeed Shirzad held in Tehran&rsquo;s Evin Prison for four months, without access to his lawyer.
