The Iranian regime\u2019s parliament endorsed a bill on Wednesday that legalizes suppression of Iranian women and youth by para-military forces patrolling in public places especially streets of Tehran under the pretext of “promotion of virtue and prevention of vice”.<\/p>\n
In an overwhelming vote, so-called MPs granted greater powers to groups to \u201cpromote virtue and prevent vice\u201d on the street.<\/p>\n
The law places these tugs under the Basij, the paramilitary units controlled by the Revolutionary Guards, with is responsible for violent crackdown of any expression of dissent in the country.<\/p>\n
A section of the new bill states: “Those who would act against controllers will be severely punished.”<\/p>\n
Moreover, this law allows supporters of the plan to protest outside government buildings where women working in these buildings would wear non-compliant clothing.<\/p>\n
This bill passed in the regime\u2019s parliament with 156 votes for, 23 votes against and 8 abstentions.<\/p>\n
Last month, the head of \u201cAnsar-e-Hezbollah\u201d para-military force had announced \u201cwidespread patrolling especially in Tehran to promote virtue and prevent vice\u201d and warned that patrols will begin their work even without official permission.<\/p>\n
The mission of these thugs is harassing people, especially women and young people under the pretext of “mal veiling” or \u201cnot dressed properly.\u201d<\/p>\n
They stop women and youth is streets and place them in custody for several hours.<\/p>\n
In recent years, there have been numerous acts of resistance against such harassment made in the street by the regime’s agents against women and youth.<\/p>\n
On several occasions, there were altercations between youth agents of the regime in which, in some cases, law enforcement agents of the regime have been injured or even killed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
