to attend a men\u2019s volleyball match.<br \/>The state-run ISNA news agency quoted a statement by the Tehran prosecutor&#8217;s office as saying Ghoncheh Ghavami was active in opposition protests against the ruling establishment abroad, and was in contact with foreign satellite channels.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in November, her lawyer said that a court sentenced Ghavami, 25, to one year in prison after finding her guilty of &#8220;propagating against the ruling system.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Women are also banned from attending football matches in Iran.<\/p>\n<p>The International Federation of Volleyball (FIVB) sanctioned Iran on November 9 from hosting international events for as long as women are not allowed to watch games.<br \/>The announcement from FIVB comes a week Ghavami was jailed for five months after being arrested in Tehran for trying to attend a volleyball match.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for the international federation told AFP that the FIVB will &#8220;not give Iran the right to host any future FIVB directly controlled events such as World Championships, especially under age, until the ban on women attending volleyball matches is lifted&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This does not include other volleyball tournaments or next year&#8217;s World League tournament because the fixtures are already confirmed,&#8221; the spokesman added.<\/p>\n<p>The secretary general of the Iranian federation has confirmed that the FIVB had already informed Iran it would be able to organize the under-19 championships in 2015.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NCRI
