A 34-year-old man was sentenced in the U.S. on Monday to two years in prison for violating the 1995 U.S. trade embargo on Iran.<\/p>\n
Ali Saboonchi, set up Ace Electric Company to buy industrial parts and components and sell them to a co-conspirator who had businesses in Tehran and the United Arab Emirates, the Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office said.<\/p>\n
According to evidence presented at trial, Saboonchi conspired with others to export products that included stainless steel filter elements to Iran in violation of a U.S. trade embargo.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors identified Iranians Arash Rashti Mohammad, Mehdi Mohammadi and Ehsan as co-conspirators indicted who are now fugitives.<\/p>\n
Saboonchi bought the items, got price quotes from the businesses and shipped them to the UAE and China, where the co-conspirators could receive them and send him money, prosecutors said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
