Amid a Saudi-led military offensive to defeat Iranian backed Houthis that control much of Yemen, the White House has expressed concern about the Iranian regime\u2019s role in stoking violence in that country.<\/p>\n
An official at the U.S. National Security Council official said yesterday that Tehran\u2019s actions were destabilising and threatening Yemen\u2019s government.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have concerns about Iranian activities in Yemen and reports of Iranian flow of arms into Yemen,\u201d Alistair Baskey said yesterday.<\/p>\n
The actions, he added, were \u201ccontributing to destabilizing the situation and contributing to the threat posed to the legitimate government.\u201d<\/p>\n
The United States has also announced it would provide \u201clogistical and intelligence support\u201d to the Saudi-led military attack.<\/p>\n
Officials said that could mean providing refuelling and early-warning radar aircraft support.<\/p>\n
About a dozen US military personnel are taking part in a \u201cjoint planning cell\u201d at an undisclosed base in Saudi Arabia to coordinate American help to the Persian Gulf states, officials said. And it was likely the team would expand in coming days.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce said on Thursday the \u201ctakeover of southern Yemen by the Iranian-supported Houthis has led to chaos, threatening the national security interests of our regional partners and the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cRegional states, led by Saudi Arabia at President Hadi\u2019s request, are taking action from the air,\u201d Royce said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe United States should support our Saudi and Gulf partners with appropriate logistical and intelligence support to combat this threat.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
