The poll of 1,048 California voters found that 60 percent of voters support giving the Congress the power to review and potentially reject a nuclear deal with the Iranian regime.<\/p>\n
But 60 percent of voters \u2014 including 48 percent of Democrats, 60 percent of independents and 80 percent of Republicans \u2014 support giving Congress the power to reject an agreement if enough members oppose removing U.S. economic sanctions against Iran as part of the deal.<\/p>\n
Some 33 percent of voters opposed President Obama\u2019s effort to reach a treaty curbing the Iranian regime\u2019s development of nuclear arms while 20 percent holding no opinion.<\/p>\n
Negotiators from the P5+1 countries consisting of U.S., China, France, Russia, Great Britain and Germany are seeking a deal with Tehran by the end of June<\/p>\n
The legislation would bar Obama from waiving congressional sanctions for at least 30 days while lawmakers examine any final deal. Congress would have to pass a resolution of disapproval to reject the deal, an action Obama likely would veto.<\/p>\n
The legislation would also compel the president to report back to Congress every 90 days about Iran’s compliance with the deal.<\/p>\n
Lawmakers would have the ability to support or oppose the pact by voting for or against lifting congressionally imposed sanctions on Iran.<\/p>\n
Should Congress pass a resolution opposing the accord, Obama would have 12 days to veto it. If he does, Congress would have 10 more days to override the veto.<\/p>\n
