{"id":18612,"date":"2015-06-29T11:41:31","date_gmt":"2015-06-29T10:41:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/statements\/nuclear\/18612-uk-lawmakers-urge-p5-1-to-step-up-pressure-on-iran-regime-in-nuke-talks"},"modified":"2023-01-15T06:35:16","modified_gmt":"2023-01-15T05:35:16","slug":"uk-lawmakers-urge-p5-1-to-step-up-pressure-on-iran-regime-in-nuke-talks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/nuclear\/uk-lawmakers-urge-p5-1-to-step-up-pressure-on-iran-regime-in-nuke-talks\/","title":{"rendered":"UK lawmakers urge P5+1 to step up pressure on Iran regime in nuke talks"},"content":{"rendered":"<img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-43322\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/06\/british-parliament-500.jpg\" alt=\"Britain\u2019s MPs agree with Iran opposition leader Maryam Rajavi that Iranian military sites must be inspected\" title=\" Archive photo, UK Parliament\" width=\"500\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/british-parliament-500.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/british-parliament-500-300x130.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/>\n<p>Members of the United Kingdom\u2019s Houses of Parliament on Monday urged the P5+1 countries that are negotiating an agreement with the Iranian regime over its nuclear program to insist that there must be international inspections of Iran&#8217;s military sites.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout unfettered access for IAEA inspectors to Iran&#8217;s military sites and nuclear scientists, any nuclear agreement between the P5+1 and Tehran would be meaningless,\u201d the British Parliamentary Committee for Iran Freedom (BPCIF) <a href=\"http:\/\/iran-freedom.org\/en\/bpcif-statements\/465-press-statement-on-p5-1-nuclear-negotiations-with-iran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"alternate noopener noreferrer\">said in a statement on its website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With only a day left until the 30 June deadline for an international agreement that would curb the regime\u2019s nuclear activities in return for the lifting of international sanctions, the Iranian regime\u2019s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has thus far ruled out freezing sensitive nuclear work and allowing UN Nuclear Agency monitors to access Iran&#8217;s military sites and nuclear scientists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA nuclear-armed fundamentalist regime in Iran, which remains the world&#8217;s leading state sponsor of terrorism and engaged in politically motivated violence and repression at home, would continue to be a major threat to world peace and security,\u201d the cross-Party committee said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Tehran regime came to the negotiation table from a position of weakness, as a result of crippling international sanctions. Repeated concessions by the P5+1, in particular by the U.S., have emboldened Tehran to demand more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIran&#8217;s democratic Parliament-in-exile, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), on Thursday<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/nuclear\/18586-new-report-shows-iran-regime-s-deceit-tactics-in-nuclear-talks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"alternate noopener noreferrer\"> published a detailed report<\/a> showing that Iran has stipulated that<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/nuclear\/18590-8-tactics-used-by-iran-regime-in-nuclear-talks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"alternate noopener noreferrer\"> there will be no access to military sites or nuclear scientists<\/a> for the inspectors and no stopping of Research and Development (R&amp;D) in the nuclear field,\u201d the UK lawmakers said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iran-freedom.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"alternate noopener noreferrer\">The BPCIF<\/a>\u00a0said it \u201cagrees with Iranian opposition leader Mrs Maryam Rajavi <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/iran-freedom-rally-2015\/18509-full-text-of-maryam-rajavi-s-speech-at-iran-freedom-rally-2015\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"alternate noopener noreferrer\">who told a major Iran Freedom rally in Paris on 13 June<\/a>\u00a0that in order to halt Tehran&#8217;s drive to obtain nuclear weapons, the UN Security Council resolutions must be fully implemented, uranium enrichment must be halted completely and all suspect sites, military or otherwise, must be inspected. In addition, the regime must also provide answers to the military dimensions of its nuclear project and make its nuclear experts available for IAEA questioning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the interest of world peace and security, the P5+1 must end the concessions to the mullahs and hold them to account before signing any final agreement with Tehran.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.parliament.uk\/edm\/2014-15\/342\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"alternate noopener noreferrer\">Early Day Motion 342 (IRAN AND NUCLEAR WEAPONS)<\/a>\u00a0signed last year by more than 100 MPs from the House of Commons reiterated a similar position and warned that Tehran is engaging in deceptive tactics to find a way out of its nuclear impasse.<\/p>\n<p>The British Parliamentary Committee for Iran Freedom, chaired jointly by Lord Carlile of Berriew QC CBE and Sir David Amess MP, has extensive cross-party support in both Houses of
