{"id":18786,"date":"2015-07-23T13:16:34","date_gmt":"2015-07-23T12:16:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/statements\/iran-protests\/18786-protesting-iranian-teachers-hold-banners-reading-hungry-for-how-much-longer"},"modified":"2023-01-15T23:06:27","modified_gmt":"2023-01-15T22:06:27","slug":"protesting-iranian-teachers-hold-banners-reading-hungry-for-how-much-longer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/statement-iran-protest\/protesting-iranian-teachers-hold-banners-reading-hungry-for-how-much-longer\/","title":{"rendered":"Protesting Iranian teachers hold banners reading: Hungry for how much longer?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"teachers-protest4-300\" class=\" size-full wp-image-43559\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/07\/teachers-protest4-300.jpg\" alt=\"teachers-protest4-300\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Teachers\u2019 Protest Gathering \u2013 No. 4<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/about\/our-resistance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"alternate noopener noreferrer\">NCRI<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 Iranian teachers who held a protest gathering outside the regime\u2019s parliament on Wednesday carried signs reading: \u201cHungry for how much longer?\u201d, \u201cImprisoned teachers must be freed\u201d, \u201cTeachers rise up to end prejudice\u201d, \u201cBread, Housing, Respect\u201d, \u201cMore Education: &amp; knowledge = less pay &amp; less respect\u201d and \u201cMore experience \u2013 less pay!\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The teachers succeeded in holding the protest in Tehran and a number of cities across Iran despite the fact that the regime employed extensive repressive suppressive measures and had threatened the teachers.<\/p>\n<p>The Iranian regime\u2019s suppressive forces and agents of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security as well unofficial channels, threatened the teachers with arrest and imprisonment to prevent them from joining the protesting teachers.<\/p>\n<p>The MOIS office in the city of Ilam sent SMS Text Messages to many residents reading: \u201cYour disrupting behavior was noted. Repeating it would lead to legal prosecution [arrest and imprisonment].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On July 22, suppressive forces prevented shopkeepers from standing in front of their shops and forced them to go inside.<\/p>\n<p>To cover up the notoriety of extensive suppression of the teachers\u2019 gathering, the Iranian regime dubbed it illegal. Mohamadreza Yousefi, the Political Director of Tehran Governorate, said: \u201cNo permit has been issued for the gathering in front of the parliament and their assembly is unlawful,\u201d the state-run Fars News Agency reported.<\/p>\n<p>Acknowledging widespread protests by various sectors of society, he stated: \u201cSimilarly, last year, around 800 unlawful assemblies were held in Tehran that had no permit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Suppressive measures against teachers was so extensive that another state-run news agency, ILNA, said that security forces \u201cobstructed\u201d the assembly of a number of teachers who had travelled from \u201cvarious places\u201d to assemble outside the regime\u2019s parliament, adding that a number of protesting teachers were \u201carrested\u201d. The agency said teachers had come from several provinces, including Kurdistan, Kermanshah, Hamedan, Esfahan, Gilan, Mazandaran and Khorassan Razavi, to participate in the gathering in Tehran.<\/p>\n<p>Ali Motahari, a member of the regime\u2019s parliament, expressed fear about the consequences of suppressing teachers\u2019 protest. He said: \u201cSensitivity towards the gatherings will aggravate the matter.
