{"id":18898,"date":"2015-08-07T21:45:42","date_gmt":"2015-08-07T20:45:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/issues\/human-rights\/18898-political-prisoner-narges-mohammadi-denied-medical-treatment-in-iran-amnesty"},"modified":"2023-01-15T09:53:19","modified_gmt":"2023-01-15T08:53:19","slug":"political-prisoner-narges-mohammadi-denied-medical-treatment-in-iran-amnesty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/political-prisoner-narges-mohammadi-denied-medical-treatment-in-iran-amnesty\/","title":{"rendered":"Political prisoner Narges Mohammadi denied medical treatment in Iran &#8211; Amnesty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Iranian human rights defender Narges Mohammadi, imprisoned since 5 May, was taken to hospital on 1 August suffering from partial paralysis and is being denied the specialized treatment she needs, Amnesty International said, adding that she is facing charges based on her human rights activities.<\/p>\n<p>In an Urgent Action appeal, Amnesty described Ms. Mohammadi as a &#8220;prisoner of conscience&#8221; and said she was taken from Tehran\u2019s Evin Prison to the city\u2019s Taleghani Hospital on 1 August but had suffered partial paralysis for eight hours that day.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"narges-mohammadi-300\" class=\" size-full wp-image-43674\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/08\/narges-mohammadi-300.jpg\" alt=\"Narges Mohammadi denied specialized treatment for partial paralysis \" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>\u00a0\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"narges-mohammadi1-300\" class=\" size-full wp-image-43675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/08\/narges-mohammadi1-300.jpg\" alt=\" Iranian human rights defender Narges Mohammadi\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><br \/><strong>Narges Mohammadi denied specialized treatment for partial paralysis<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Doctors at the hospital advised her that she needed to be examined by a specialist in order to be treated; however, despite this medical recommendation, she was returned to Evin Prison the next day without receiving specialized care, the human rights group said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Narges Mohammadi\u2019s husband, Taghi Rahmani, a refugee in Paris, France, has said that Narges Mohammadi was also taken to hospital on 27 July after complaining of lung pains. He said the doctor advised that Narges Mohammadi needed to be hospitalized for treatment of a possible pulmonary embolism (a blood clot in her lungs), but she was returned to prison without receiving adequate care. The next day, prison officials refused to take her to an appointment with a neurologist for her medical history of partial paralysis. As well as being denied the medical care she requires, Narges Mohammadi is not allowed to make phone calls to her children, eight-year old twins who recently moved abroad to live with their father as they had no caregiver in Iran,&#8221; the group said.<\/p>\n<p>It added that Narges Mohammadi was arrested at home on the morning of 5 May 2015 and taken to Evin Prison. Two days earlier, she had appeared at the first session of her trial before Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran on national-security-related charges, including \u201cspreading propaganda against the system\u201d and \u201cassembly and collusion against national security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before her arrest, Narges Mohammadi told Amnesty International that the charges stemmed solely from
