Ted Cruz\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>\n<p>U.S. Senator Ted Cruz on Sunday urged U.S. states to continue their sanctions on the Iranian regime and impose new ones to stop the regime from obtaining a nuclear weapon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that states should act and lead to do exactly that,\u201d Sen. Cruz said, <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.rollcall.com\/wgdb\/ted-cruz-to-states-impose-your-own-iran-sanctions\/?dcz=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"alternate noopener noreferrer\">according to Roll Call<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Cruz, a Republican from Texas, cited the constitutional precedent set by his own litigation before the Supreme Court in Medellin v. Texas (2008), in which the Court held that international treaties do not trump state law unless accompanied by enabling federal legislation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[W]e ought to do everything we can to resist this \u2026 Iranian deal,\u201d Cruz said, calling on the states to lead.<\/p>\n<p>Both New York and California intend to retain their sanctions on the regime in Iran, according to legislators<a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/big-government\/2015\/07\/28\/new-york-california-will-keep-iran-sanctions-legislators\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"alternate noopener noreferrer\"> who spoke with Breitbart News<\/a>.
