\nOn Wednesday, October 21, 2015, Major Ahmed Khozair, an agent from the Governmental Committee tasked to suppress Camp Liberty residents, once again in the recent weeks, prevented entry of residents\u2019 basic needs, supplies, and items needed for maintenance and repair of camp\u2019s infrastructures, etc returning them from camp\u2019s gate.<\/p>\n
These suppressive measures and returning of items bought by residents are implemented under the supervision of Iraqi National Security Advisor Faleh Fayyad.<\/p>\n
The returned items include ordinary cloth, stationary, electric cables, water pumps, ventilators, water pressure container, hose and physical exercise equipment.<\/p>\n
Concurrently, agents of the Committee prevented an Iraqi contractor from coming to the camp despite the fact that his visit had been coordinated with UNAMI and Iraqi officers. It is over two years now that the suppressive committee prevents contractors from coming to the camp for the repair of air-conditioning systems and camp\u2019s worn out infrastructures. This measure is egregious breach of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Government of Iraq and UNAMI on December 25, 2011 according to which contractors may sign contracts for refurbishment and repair jobs in the camp. This issue has been raised numerously with UNAMI, but no effective measures have been taken.<\/p>\n
In yet another suppressive measure in recent weeks, the Committee has limited the daily working hours of sewage tankers rented by residents to discharge the black water tanks to three hours a day. On the one hand, the Committee delays entry of sewage tankers to the camp using various excuses and on the other hand threatens the drivers to leave the camp at 4:30 pm. This has caused the dilapidated black water tanks to discharge their contents into and contaminate the environment due to the pressure buildup in the tanks; a matter that seriously imperils residents\u2019 sanitation.<\/p>\n
These measures are part of the antihuman siege imposed against Camp Liberty residents in the past four years at the behest of the Iranian regime and it flagrantly violates human rights and humanitarian standards, as well as many international covenants, and is considered a criminal act.<\/p>\n
The Iranian Resistance calls on the United Nations and the U.S. government that have repeatedly committed themselves in writing to the wellbeing and security of Liberty residents to take immediate steps to end this antihuman blockade.<\/p>\n
