NCRI \u2013 The mullahs\u2019 regime on Wednesday hanged at least nine people in prisons across Iran.<\/p>\n
At least five prisoners were hanged in the notorious Gohardasht (Rajai-Shahr) Prison in Karaj, north-west of the Iranian capital Tehran. They were identified as Maqsoud Mehdizadeh, Sadeq Heidari, Mehdi Sadeqi, Amirhamid Khodabandeh-lou and Mahmoud Nasir-nejad.<\/p>\n
Another three prisoners were hanged in Nazarabad, in the northern province of Alborz. They were accused of drugs-related charges.<\/p>\n
At least one other prisoner was hanged in a prison in Hamedan, western Iran, although there are reports that there may have been more executions there.<\/p>\n
The human rights situation has been deteriorating rapidly in Iran. More than 2,000 individuals have been executed during Hassan Rouhani\u2019s tenure as President of the regime. This is the highest rate of executions in the past 25 years, and it reflects an increase over figures that had already secured Iran\u2019s place as the nation with the most executions per capita.<\/p>\n
On December 17, 2015, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution strongly condemning the brutal and systematic violation of human rights in Iran, in particular the mass and arbitrary executions, increasing violence and discrimination against women and ethnic and religious minorities.<\/p>\n
