U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce on Wednesday blasted the Obama administration’s response to two days of ballistic missile testing by Iran’s regime in the face of U.S. sanctions.<\/p>\n
“Instead of forcefully condemning Iran\u2019s dangerous missile tests, the White House is twisting itself into pretzels to explain how they don\u2019t violate the president\u2019s deeply flawed nuclear deal,” Royce said in a statement.<\/p>\n
The Iranian regime’s state media announced Wednesday that its military conducted more ballistic missile tests, following a round earlier this week.<\/p>\n
White House press secretary Josh Earnest said on Tuesday that the White House is still reviewing the launches to assess whether the U.S. should take the matter to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).<\/p>\n
“There’s at least one specific United Nations Security Council resolution that could apply here, and the truth is, we’re still reviewing the Iranian launch to assess whether it is necessary for this matter to be raised before the United Nations Security Council,” Earnest told reporters.<\/p>\n
He also noted that the U.S. passed sanctions on Iran’s regime in response to similar tests conducted in October and November.<\/p>\n
Republicans and some Democrats in Congress on Tuesday called for stronger measures against the Iranian regime in light of the sanctions and a UNSC resolution calling upon Tehran to refrain from such tests.<\/p>\n
Royce slammed the administration for “tripping over technicalities,” adding that inaction could show Iran’s regime it can violate the nuclear deal.<\/p>\n
\u201cIran is making a mockery of President Obama\u2019s vow to confront Iran\u2019s dangerous and illicit acts,” he said.<\/p>\n
“For a second day in a row, the Iranian regime has launched ballistic missiles in violation of U.N. sanctions. These latest missiles were reportedly designed to strike our ally Israel, and stamped with the words \u2018Israel should be wiped from the pages of history,\u2019” he added.<\/p>\n
\u201cHere\u2019s the reality: If Iran sees it can violate U.N. missile sanctions with no consequence, it will violate this nuclear deal too,” Royce said, according to The Hill.<\/p>\n
