{"id":20306,"date":"2016-05-06T17:55:35","date_gmt":"2016-05-06T16:55:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/issues\/human-rights\/20306-interview-with-paria-kohandel-on-her-father-s-plight-in-iran-prison"},"modified":"2023-01-16T05:23:45","modified_gmt":"2023-01-16T04:23:45","slug":"interview-with-paria-kohandel-on-her-father-s-plight-in-iran-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/interview-with-paria-kohandel-on-her-father-s-plight-in-iran-prison\/","title":{"rendered":"Interview with Paria Kohandel on her father\u2019s plight in Iran prison"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"paria-kohandel-400-2\" class=\" size-full wp-image-45840\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/05\/paria-kohandel-400-2.jpg\" alt=\"paria-kohandel-400-2\" width=\"400\" height=\"251\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/paria-kohandel-400-2.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/paria-kohandel-400-2-300x188.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">NCRI \u2013 Ncr-iran.org on Friday interviewed young Iranian opposition activist Paria Kohandel on the plight of her father who is a political prisoner in the notorious Gohardasht (Rajai-Shahr) Prison in Karaj, north-west of Tehran.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Renowned Iranian dissident Saleh Kohandel was arrested on March 4, 2007 and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for supporting the main Iranian opposition group People&#8217;s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/pmoi-mek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"alternate noopener noreferrer\">PMOI, Mujahedin Khalq, MEK<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">The last time Paria saw her father was in Gohardasht Prison last year, one month before she fled Iran.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jmIhNqU4Nz8<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Mr. Kohandel this week wrote an open letter from prison to his relatives announcing that he will no longer accept family visits due to the subjugation that he is forced to endure at the hands of the mullahs&#8217; regime before, during and after such visits.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">The following is the text of his letter which has been smuggled out of prison:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>Family visits at what price?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">At a time when the rotten and decaying regime of velayat-e faqih (absolute clerical rule) is in its final chapter and each day there are new reports in state media of vast theft and embezzlement by various high-ranking and ordinary members of the regime, and as officials are overtaking each other in such theft and plundering of the nation, on Wednesday May 4 they summoned me for a visit from my family. Although it has been six years since I was allowed to have direct interaction with my relatives during their visits, and this latest visit was from behind the glass partition, I was searched four times between our Ward and the Visitors\u2019 Hall. In order to degrade me, the wardens attempted to strip me in front of the other prisoners. This dirty action was despite the fact that the wardens know full well that in the 10 years that I am in prison I have not violated any of the prison regulations including those which stem from their reactionary nature. My only crime, in their view, are my political activities, and for this reason I have on many occasions been transferred to the Ward run by the Intelligence Ministry and spent months under torture in solitary confinement. Therefore in order to partly allay the insults that my relatives and I are being subjected to, I have decided not to attend any further visits. I urge all my relatives not to come to visit me from this day onward.
