NCRI – Congressman Ed Royce, Chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, citing the Iranian regime’s “brutal” human rights abuses at home and abroad, has declared, “We must continue to push back against the Iranian government.”<\/p>\n
Appalled that the current regime should have put Iran “in reverse” when the people have an ancient tradition of respect for human rights stretching back to the Persian Constitutional Revolution of 1905-07, and, beyond that, even to Cyrus the Great, Congressman Royce outlined the scale of abuses under the regime\u2019s President Hassan Rouhani, particularly the number of executions, widespread use of torture, and a complete absence of due process in the judicial system. As such, he and his colleagues continued “to press for sanctions on senior Iranian officials involved in these human rights abuses,” Congressman Royce said in a message of solidarity to the \u201cFree Iran\u201d gathering that will be held in Paris on July 9.<\/p>\n
Speaking of his dismay that “the world has given the government of Iran…a free pass to attack the residents of Camp Ashraf,” Congressman Royce reported that the Foreign Affairs Committee had passed House Resolution 650, which, he said, “publicly pushes back against the Iraqi government’s failure to effectively protect the residents of Camp Liberty and calls for their immediate resettlement.”<\/p>\n
Members of the main Iranian opposition group People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI or MEK) are based at Camp Liberty in Iraq.<\/p>\n
The House Foreign Affairs Committee, Congressman Royce said, “remains focused on the threat posed by the radical regime in Tehran.” \u00a0.<\/p>\n
