NCRI – American human rights activist and writer Kerry Kennedy spoke before the \u201cFree Iran\u201d conference last Saturday in Paris, as reported by the Washington Times <\/a>on July 14.<\/p>\n

Abu \u02bel-Qasim Ferdowsi Tusi was a Persian poet and the author of Shahnameh (“Book of Kings”), which is the national epic of Iran. Ferdowsi is celebrated as the most influential figure in Persian literature and one of the greatest in the history of literature.<\/p>\n

In her moving speech, Kennedy, who is President of the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights, asked the enormous crowd gathered in Paris to take up Ferdowsi\u2019s call. His famous words to the king who subsequently abused him were, \u201cHeaven\u2019s vengeance will not forget. Shrink, tyrant, from my words of fire, and tremble at a poet\u2019s ire.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kennedy declared, \u201cWe are here today because we believe in freedom. We stand in solidarity with the Iranian people. We stand against the mullahs who have caused untold terror to your beloved country with their oppression and reign of terror. The mullahs denied the people of Iran the pride of their extraordinary heritage, a heritage admired across the globe.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said that it\u2019s time for the mullahs to live up to the legacy of respect for freedom and human rights: the legacy and the proper inheritance of the Iranian people. She criticized the mullahs for targeting the members of the Iranian opposition PMOI (MEK) in Camp Liberty in Iraq, the freedom fighters in Syria, and all the dissidents, journalists, protesters, ethnic and religious minorities, and human rights defenders in Iran. Most particularly, Kennedy criticized their treatment of women. Women who are perceived to have violated the dress code are in danger of becoming victims to the horrific acid attacks recently on the rise. The regime\u2019s so-called Morality Police, Special Forces also known as the promoters of virtue, have begun viciously attacking protesters against these policies with batons.<\/p>\n

Kerry Kennedy concluded, \u201cLet the mullah tyrants tremble and shrink as we join with the people in Iran and speak truth to power. It is time to free Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n
