Agents of the Intelligence Ministry summoned Ms. Maryam Olangi and her son Navid Dogmechi\u00a0to the Prosecutor’s Office on July 24, 2016, where Ms. Olangi was arrested and subsequently transferred to Evin Prison.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Nargess Dogmechi, Ms. Olangi’s daughter, is a member of the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI or MEK). Her father was a renowned and popular merchant in Tehran’s Bazaar and a political prisoner for supporting the PMOI. He was arrested in 2010 and imprisoned with a 10-year-sentence for giving financial assistance to the families of political prisoners and because his daughter had joined the opposition in Camp Ashraf. Mr. Dogmechi, who had cancer, suffered tremendously in prison because he was denied vital treatment until he died in agony.<\/p>\n
In another development, Ms. Sotoudeh Fazeli was arrested as she was leaving the country and taken to Evin Prison.<\/p>\n
A well-known former principal of Tehran girls’ schools, Ms. Fazeli is mother of Payman and Pejman Taghipoor, both members of the PMOI. She is presently retired.<\/p>\n
Ms. Fazeli had been arrested in 2011 and sentenced to three years in prison for travelling to Camp Ashraf and visiting her sons. Ms. Fazeli’s brother, Shams Fazeli, was executed in 1981 by the clerical regime.<\/p>\n
These arbitrary arrests, particularly in the wake of the Iranian Resistance’s grand gathering on July 9 in Paris, reveal the clerical regime’s anxiety over the possibility of an uprising by the Iranian people and youths who have found the only way to Iran’s freedom and democracy in the overthrow of the religious fascism ruling the country.<\/p>\n
