NCRI – A top official of the Iranian Resistance has spoken up about the importance of bringing the mullahs\u2019 regime to account regarding their 1988 massacre of political prisoners in Iran.<\/p>\n
In an interview with Al-Arabiya.net, Mohammad Mohaddessin, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), stressed the importance of bringing the perpetrators of these horrific crimes to justice.<\/p>\n
This interview was held in reaction to leaked audio footage from Khomeini\u2019s former heir, Hossein-Ali Montazeri, which provides evidence that leading figures of the Iranian regime planned and carried out the executions of 30,000 of their opponents, primarily members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI).<\/p>\n
Mohaddessin called for the Iranian regime to be brought before the International Criminal Court for the \u201cbiggest massacre of political prisoners since WWII.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said: “The publication of shocking remarks of Montazeri, Khomeini’s then heir, in a meeting with members of the \u2018Death Committee\u2019 [in 1988] reveals another dimension of the massacre of 30,000 political prisoners in 1988 and shows the clerical regime\u2019s leaders from the beginning to present must be brought to justice for the worst crimes against humanity.”<\/p>\n
Many of those involved in the massacre are still high-ranking figures in the regime, Mr. Mohaddessin noted. Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi, who was a member of the Death Committee, is currently Hassan Rouhani\u2019s Minister of Justice. Hossein Ali Nayyeri is the head of the Disciplinary Court of Judges.<\/p>\n
Another Death Committee member Ebrahim Reissi was the regime\u2019s solicitor general until recently, when he was appointed by the regime\u2019s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei as the head of Astan Qods Razavi, one of the most important centres of political and economic power in the theocratic regime, Mohaddessin added.
