The Iranian regime\u2019s parliamentary elections on February 21\u00a0is\u00a0a\u00a0serious turning point for the Iranian regime.\u00a0Heavy blows to the regime\u00a0such as the nationwide\u00a0Iran protests<\/a>,\u00a0its increasing international isolation\u00a0and the uprisings in Iraq and Lebanon, particularly after the elimination of\u00a0Revolutionary Guards (IRGC)<\/a>\u00a0Quds Force<\/a>\u00a0Commander,\u00a0Qassem Soleimani<\/a>,\u00a0have intensified\u00a0the\u00a0regime\u2019s\u00a0infightings.<\/p>\n

The situation in Iran has changed.\u00a0This happened after the nationwide uprising in Iran in 2018 and the Iran protests in 2019 and 2020 with over 1500 martyrs.\u00a0The nationwide uprising in 2018\u00a0demonstrated the Iranian people\u2019s will to overthrow this regime.<\/p>\n

As the\u00a0ultimate downfall of the regime emerges,\u00a0the rival factions, the so-called \u201cReformists,\u201d and \u201cHardliners,\u201d\u00a0each\u00a0try to\u00a0portray\u00a0their\u00a0solution as the best way out for the regime\u00a0and to have more share of power.<\/p>\n

This is because\u00a0the\u00a0regime\u2019s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, doesn\u2019t have the same hegemony over\u00a0his forces,\u00a0in other words,\u00a0he is no longer the regime\u2019s so-called \u201cpillar\u201d or\u00a0center of unity; therefore, he is not able to control his regime.\u00a0This\u00a0situation indeed confirms the Iranian regime is taking\u00a0its final breaths.<\/p>\n

Khamenei\u00a0is not even capable of accepting any difference from\u00a0the\u00a0rival faction, which has served the regime for years and has been the culprit in all the regime\u2019s crimes.\u00a0In this regard, he used the Guardian Council\u00a0to eliminate and disqualify all the candidates close to\u00a0the faction of\u00a0Hassan Rouhani,\u00a0the\u00a0regime\u2019s president.\u00a0Rouhani, who has been a top official of the regime within the last 40 years, and\u00a0became President with\u00a0Khamenei\u2019s blessing,\u00a0has called this election, a \u201cSelection\u201d. Yet, Rouhani, just like Khamenei and other regime officials have been pleading\u00a0for\u00a0people to participate in\u00a0this election.<\/p>\n

ELECTIONS IN IRAN\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

There is no such thing\u00a0as\u00a0\u201celections\u201d in Iran\u00a0under the mullahs\u2019 regime.\u00a0The medieval regime ruling Iran needs to hold these carnivals\u00a0to present a\u00a0\u201cdemocratic\u00a0fa\u00e7ade\u201d\u00a0for years.\u00a0\u00a0No opposition group\u00a0is allowed to\u00a0be active\u00a0inside Iran,\u00a0and any connection with these groups, such as\u00a0the\u00a0People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI, Mujahedin-e Khalq or MEK)<\/a>,\u00a0is punishable\u00a0by death.\u00a0There\u00a0are\u00a0only two factions\u00a0within\u00a0the regime. The so-called candidates should have\u00a0\u201cmoral and practical\u201d commitment to the regime\u2019s supreme leader.

Even\u00a0those abiding by the regime\u2019s\u00a0constitution\u00a0should go through a\u00a0vetting\u00a0process by the Guardian Council. This council has 12 members,\u00a0six\u00a0clerics,\u00a0who\u00a0are directly appointed by the supreme leader, and\u00a0six\u00a0lawyers, who are appointed by the regime\u2019s chief of the judiciary, who is appointed by the supreme leader.<\/p>\n

The regime\u2019s parliament has adopted laws that further oppress the Iranian people. One\u00a0of these laws is the mandatory veiling, a misogynist law that ignores women\u2019s right and dignity. This law was adopted in\u00a01984 and all of those who present themselves as moderates voted in\u00a0its\u00a0favor.\u00a0In a nutshell, the laws that this parliament has ratified over the past 40 years have served and will serve no purpose other than increasing suppression, misogyny, and plunder.

Yet, despite their loyalty to the\u00a0regime’s\u00a0foundations and principal, the so-called \u201creformist\u201d faction is facing an unprecedented elimination by the regime\u2019s supreme leader.<\/p>\n

MASSIVE PURGE\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Despite the threat of new wave of protests, Khamenei is poised to purge candidates of the rival faction, in order to\u00a0unify his forces for more oppression. He is aware of the\u00a0heavy costs of this action that will open a rift at the top of the system that could lead to social protests and an\u00a0uprising.\u00a0Therefore, as the\u00a0state-run media reported, the Guardian Council has disqualified 90 sitting members of the parliament, some of whom have already served three terms. Candidates in 170 districts are only from Khamenei\u2019s faction, and the main candidates of the rival faction in other districts have been eliminated such that ultimately 260 seats will automatically go to the faction most aligned with Khamenei.

In a speech on Wednesday, February\u00a05,\u00a0Khamenei presented his firm support for the Guardian Council, and it became clear that Khamenei intends to eliminate the other faction from the Parliament.<\/p>\n

Despite this massive purge of his faction, Rouhani, who\u2019s the best interest is to save this regime,\u00a0pleaded with Iranian people to participate in the regime\u2019s sham elections. He\u00a0said:\u00a0\u201cOne of our highest nationalist and religious values is to elect and the power to elect, to be able to choose a better path among several paths. There should be criticism and we should criticize. But I implore that there should not be apathy, we must not become passive. We should not stay away from the ballot box because of this act or that act. We must not stay away from the ballot and the election. Regardless of the circumstances, we must go to the ballot box\u2026. The election and the ballot box are our saviors.\u201d His remarks once again prove the fact that there is no such thing as reformist in the\u00a0regime.

The Iranian people\u2019s answer to this game has been clear. During the nationwide Iran protests in 2018, 2019 and 2020,\u00a0they\u00a0chanted:\u00a0\u201cReformists, Hardliner, the game is over.\u201d The Iranian people’s sacrifice of over 1500 martyrs during the November protests confirms\u00a0their\u00a0will for the overthrow of this regime in its\u00a0entirety.<\/p>\n

As Mrs. Maryam\u00a0Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), said in her remarks at a gathering of members of the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK) at Ashraf-3 in Albania, marking the anniversary of the 1979 anti-monarchic revolution in Iran:\u00a0\u201cNow, it is high time to establish an Iran free from any form of dictatorship; an Iran devoid of torture, execution, and religious and gender discrimination. The time has come to establish a republic based on the free vote of the Iranian people, based on the separation of religion and state, and based on pluralism, justice, and equality.\u201d
