Now the regime issues lengthy sentences for the detained protesters<\/strong><\/small><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Written by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ncr-iran.org\/en\/component\/contact\/contact\/7?Itemid=490\">Sedighe Shahrokhi<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a010 February 2020.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ncr-iran.org\/en\/iran-protests-2019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">mid-November 2019<\/a>, the Iranian regime responded harshly to hundreds of thousands of outraged people of Iran who flooded onto the streets to show their discontent over the hikes in gasoline prices. The significant expansion of uprisings in more than 190 cities and towns across the country and explicit demands for overthrowing the corrupt system prompted the regime\u2019s authorities to do whatever it takes to suppress the nationwide Iran protests.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a>: Lengthy Prison Terms for Those Arrested During the November 2019 Uprising <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/T90ZYecptO\">https:\/\/t.co\/T90ZYecptO<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/IranProtests?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#IranProtests<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/FreeIran2020?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#FreeIran2020<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/FreeAllProtesters?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#FreeAllProtesters<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1226279840816517123?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 8, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>At dawn on November 17, the regime\u2019s supreme leader Ali Khamenei ordered the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/terrorism-fundamentalism\/26779-iran-s-regime-is-the-world-s-foremost-threat-to-peace-and-security\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Revolutionary Guards (IRGC)<\/a>\u00a0and security forces cracking down on demonstrators at all costs. \u201cEvery wise man who loves his comfort life shouldn\u2019t support [protesters],\u201d Khamenei remarked in his primary lecture on November 17. Therefore, Khamenei unveiled his decision for killing protesters who only pursued their basic rightful grievances.<\/p>\n<p>In this respect, security forces murdered more than<a href=\"https:\/\/ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/iran-protests\/27253-names-of-20-more-martyrs-of-the-nationwide-uprising?highlight=WyJtYXJ0eXJzIiwibWFydHlycyciLCJtYXJ0eXJzJywiLCInbWFydHlycyIsIm1hcnR5cnMnLiJd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a01,500 demonstrators<\/a>\u00a0on the streets in addition to arresting more than 12,000 people. The regime\u2019s officials have yet to announce the true death toll, however, the fate of thousands of detainees is still unclear. Notably, many lifeless bodies of disappeared youth have been found lying on the streets, lakes, canals, etc. in recent months. The impact of torture was seen on the discovered bodies, which proves they didn\u2019t lose their lives of natural causes.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the regime\u2019s Judiciary system has issued excessive sentences for detainees of the November protests, who are still alive. Remarkably, the Judiciary is presided by a notorious executioner Ebrahim Raisi who is one of the main perpetrators of the 1988 massacre of 30,000 political prisoners. Some of the sentences are as follows:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Ebrahim Raisi Should Face Justice for Role in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/1988Massacre?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#1988Massacre<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/TYbrQQIse8\">https:\/\/t.co\/TYbrQQIse8<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/MT4XFZpjuL\">https:\/\/t.co\/MT4XFZpjuL<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/7nrxMPO4NJ\">pic.twitter.com\/7nrxMPO4NJ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1121780970334687232?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 26, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Branch 1 of the court in Shahryar sentenced Milad Arsanjani to five years in prison. Judge Barjasteh convicted Arsanjani on the charge of \u201ccollusion and association against national security and propaganda against the state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another protester Kianoush Jamali, who was arrested by Sarallah base of the IRGC on November 18, has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison. The 27-year-old detainee was sentenced by Judge Babaei, the chief of Branch 26 in Tehran, for \u201ccollusion and association against national security and propaganda against Khamenei and [the regime\u2019s president Hassan] Rouhani.\u201d Security forces held Mr. Jamali in solitary confinement for more than 25 days after arresting him during a demonstration.<\/p>\n<p>Two mentioned detainees are in \u201cTehran Central Prison\u201d and were informed about their punishment on February 5. Also, the supporters of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/pmoi-mek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK)<\/a>\u00a0reported that hundreds of arrested protesters are imprisoned in Tehran Central Prison, which also known as \u201cFashafuyeh Prison.\u201d Due to pressures and threats by security forces, many families of detainees don\u2019t dare publish information about the detention of their loved ones.<\/p>\n<p>Eyewitness reports say that the regime\u2019s oppressive apparatus captured more than 400 protesters in the suburbs of Tehran, including Shahryar, Islamshahr, Quds district [Qal\u2019eh Hassan Khan], Malard, and Robat Karim. Many detainees are between 18 and 25 years old and usually from impoverished segments of society.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, a number of protesters were arrested in a state of injury.
