{"id":212071,"date":"2020-02-05T18:18:14","date_gmt":"2020-02-05T18:18:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/?p=212071"},"modified":"2023-01-21T18:29:35","modified_gmt":"2023-01-21T17:29:35","slug":"monthly-report-by-rights-group-confirms-iran-s-regime-ongoing-human-rights-violation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/monthly-report-by-rights-group-confirms-iran-s-regime-ongoing-human-rights-violation\/","title":{"rendered":"Monthly Report by Rights Group Confirms Iran\u2019s Regime Ongoing Human Rights Violation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Iran Human Rights Monitor Monthly Report \u2013 January 2020\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Iran_HRM_Monthly_Report_-_January_2020.jpg\" alt=\"Monthly Report by Rights Group Confirms Iran\u2019s Regime Ongoing Human Rights Violation \" \/><\/p>\n<p><small><strong>Iran Human Rights Monitor Monthly Report \u2013 January 2020<\/strong><\/small><\/p>\n<p>The Iranian regime\u2019s security forces used\u00a0violence in dealing with Iranian protesters during\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-protests\/27331-iran-protests-iranian-regime-s-judiciary-uses-drugs-to-break-detained-young-protesters\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">protests in Ja<\/a><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-protests\/27331-iran-protests-iranian-regime-s-judiciary-uses-drugs-to-break-detained-young-protesters\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">nuary<\/a>, against the regime\u2019s downing of the Ukrainian passenger jet, says\u00a0a\u00a0leading\u00a0Iranian\u00a0human rights group.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/iran-hrm.com\/index.php\/2020\/02\/04\/iran-human-rights-monitor-monthly-report-january-2020\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Iran Human Rights Monitor (Iran HRM)\u00a0<\/a><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/iran-hrm.com\/index.php\/2020\/02\/04\/iran-human-rights-monitor-monthly-report-january-2020\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said January 2020<\/a> \u201cwas marked by further clampdown on freedom of expression and assembly in Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The monthly report of Iran Human Rights Monitor \u2013 January 2020 briefly glances over <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/humanrights?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#humanrights<\/a> conditions in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a> over the past month.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Xg6AOjxE7z\">https:\/\/t.co\/Xg6AOjxE7z<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; IRAN HRM (@IranHrm) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IranHrm\/status\/1224794025972195331?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 4, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In Its monthly report of January,\u00a0Iran HRM, while referring to\u00a0the regime\u2019s\u00a0crime in shooting down\u00a0of a passenger jet\u00a0and the subsequent protests\u00a0by Iranian students and\u00a0the\u00a0regime\u2019s excessive use of force in dealing with protesters, wrote:\u00a0\u201cA Ukrainian Airliner Boeing 737 was shot down early morning on January 8, just minutes after it took off for Kiev, capital of Ukraine, from Tehran\u2019s Khomeini Airport. All the 176 passengers and crew onboard were killed. Despite denying involvement for three days, the Iranian regime officials finally admitted that the aircraft had been shot down by their anti-aircraft missiles. Only hours after official admissions, thousands of Iranian people and students took to the streets, to pay homage to the victims of the downing of the Ukrainian airliner and to protest the regime\u2019s concealments. Videos obtained from the protests indicate extensive and heavy presence of security forces in the scenes of protests after the sunset. The footage also show that security forces lobbed tear gas at Iran protesters gathering outside the Amir Kabir University in Tehran and other parts of the capital, in a bid to disperse them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecurity forces also used pellet guns, plastic bullets, batons and pepper spray to contain the protests. There is no accurate statistics available on the number of arrested participants, but they clearly included\u00a0a number of\u00a0college students and student activists. In addition to violation of freedom of expression and freedom of assembly, mistreatment and torture of political prisoners, arrest, detention and handing down of heavy sentences for civil and human rights activists, and inhuman punishments such as execution and flogging are among the common and systematic practices of Iranian authorities every month,\u201d read the report.<\/p>\n<p>Referring to the ongoing executions in Iran, Iran HRM confirmed\u00a0\u201cat least 24 executions in January including that of two women.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In its monthly report,\u00a0Iran HRM\u00a0also gave details of the regime\u2019s\u00a0use of torture against detained activists especially the detainees of the Iran protests in November and January.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReports in January indicate that the mistreatment and torture of prisoners and human rights activists in Iranian prisons has increased. According to reports, many of those arrested during peaceful protesters in November 2019 are currently under severe torture by security forces. The monthly report of Iran Human Rights Monitor \u2013 January 2020 briefly glances over human rights conditions in Iran over the past month,\u201d read the report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReports also show that prisoners in the Greater Tehran Prison are under torture. Prisoners are beaten in their testicles and scalded with boiling water.\u00a0Security and intelligence forces prevent news on the condition of detainees from leaking out of prison. Only people and forces with special clearances\u00a0are allowed to\u00a0go to the cells of detained protesters. One of the detainees who was recently released from prison compared prison conditions to &#8216;hell&#8217;,\u201d the report added.<\/p>\n<p>Citing Amnesty International\u2019s\u00a0\u201cshocking reports\u201d about sexual assault of a woman, detained in January for participating in protests following the downing of\u00a0the\u00a0Ukrainian plane\u00a0in Tehran,\u00a0Iran HRM wrote:\u00a0&#8220;Amnesty International said one of the detainees was a woman, who was taken to a police station and sexually assaulted by a security agent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In another part of its monthly report, Iran HRM wrote about\u00a0the ongoing violation of the freedom of expression by the regime.\u00a0\u201cA number of civil rights activists, teachers and academic activists were sentenced to heavy prison terms and flogging in January,\u201d read the report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA number of teachers in the northeastern city of Mashhad including Mohammad Reza\u00a0Ramezanzadeh, Hossein\u00a0Ramezanpour,\u00a0Hamidreza\u00a0Rajaei, Ali\u00a0Forutan, Mostafa\u00a0Robati, Saied\u00a0Haghparast\u00a0and Hassan Johari who were detained in October and November 2018 and were later released on bail were sentenced to prison in January. They were sentenced to overall 41 years and eight months of prison, 222 lashes and a 3 million\u00a0toman\u00a0fine,\u201d the report added.<\/p>\n<p>Iran HRM also referred to the\u00a0regime\u2019s violation of rights of the ethnic and religious minorities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMembers of Iran\u2019s Baha\u2019i minority would face further discrimination with the news rule which requires citizens to register their religion. The card is used for all government services, banking activities and\u00a0the vast majority of\u00a0other transactions in Iran. Meanwhile, 12 members of Baha\u2019i minority were taken to prison to begin serving their sentences. Iran has bulldozed over the grave of a pastor who was executed by the regime in 1990 for leaving Islam for Christianity,\u201d read the report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRev Hossein\u00a0Soodmand, who converted before the 1979 Islamic Revolution, was arrested and tortured before being hanged after a sharia court convicted him of\u00a0apostasy.\u00a0There\u00a0is no information on the whereabouts of Fatemeh (Mary)\u00a0Mohammadi, an Iranian Christian who was arrested on January 12, 2020. Iranian authorities have not provided any information regarding her whereabouts and well-being since January 12, when she was arrested in Tehran\u2019s Azadi Square,\u201d the report added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeveral reports indicate the widespread use of lethal force by Iran\u2019s security forces against\u00a0Baluchis\u00a0and Kurds without due process which amounts to arbitrary killings. At least three Kurdish porters were shot to death by the state security forces while several others were wounded.\u00a0At least three deaths and several injuries as a result of lethal force by security forces were reported in January in the Baluch areas in the south eastern regions of Iran,\u201d Iran HRM\u2019s report added.<\/p>\n<p>This report once again highlights the need\u00a0for\u00a0the international community\u00a0to\u00a0send a fact-finding mission to Iran to prevent\u00a0the\u00a0regime from further violation of human rights.
